Side-Load Offline Maps into Mobile Device via Computer


Instead of installing maps straight from our mobile apps, some customers prefer to side-load map files onto a device or a device's memory card. This side-load process is also useful for Android users who want to update map files on an existing memory card. Here is the install process for map files downloaded from GPSHuntFish.com to your computer.   

• From your computer, log into GPSHuntFish.com. In the navigation bar, select Maps > Off-The-Grid Maps.
• Find the map files you want to download. Maps can be downloaded by county, national park, wilderness area, or hunt unit.
• Select Get Maps button. 
• Choose Download to Computer. The map file(s) will download onto your computer.
• Install file(s) on your mobile device. Follow the instructions for your specific mobile device below.

Side-Load Maps into Phone/iPad

This sideload process only takes a few minutes but it requires that you connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer. Note: These directions are for iTunes 12.

• Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer via USB.
• Launch iTunes on your computer.
• Select your device in the Devices list in the top-left of iTunes.
• Click the Apps tab on the top-left of the iTunes screen.
• Scroll down to the File Sharing section.
• From the Apps list, select the app that you want to install maps files on. For example: “GPS Hunt”.
• On the right side of iTunes, in the app’s Documents section, click the Add button.
• Browse to the maps files you just downloaded.
•  Select Open or Add button then files will load into iTunes.
• Click Eject icon on the top-left of iTunes. Disconnect the device from computer.
• Launch mobile app. From the Main screen, go to the Off-The-Grid Maps > On Device tab to see a list of all the maps on your device.

Side-Load Maps into Android devices

• Plug your Android device into your computer.
• Create a folder called “TrimbleMapBundles” on your device’s microSD card.
• Copy the map files from your computer to the new folder on your microSD card.
• Disconnect Android device from the computer. 
• Launch app on your Android device. From the Main screen, go to the Off-The-Grid Maps > On Device tab to see a list of all the maps on your device.

Side-Load Maps into Android Devices without microSD card slots

Some Android devices, like the Nexus 4 or Moto G, do not have a slot for microSD cards. Here's how to install maps from your computer: 

• Plug your Android device into your computer. Follow the instructions on the Android device to enable you to mount the device’s internal storage to be visible on your computer. (The device will be listed as an external drive).
• Create a folder called “TrimbleMapBundles” on your device’s memory card at the root of your mounted device’s internal storage (at the same folder level as DCIM, Music, Movies, etc.). 
• Copy the map files from your computer to the new folder on your device.
• Disconnect Android device from the computer.  
• Launch app on your Android device. From the Main screen, go to the Off-The-Grid Maps > On Device tab to see a list of all the maps on your device.
